Update 2.0.2
Update 2.0.2
Hi Everyone,
Update 2.0.2 is released. This update contains a large number of typo fixes and rules clarifications, many of which were pointed out and suggested by the wonderful members of the Trespasser Discord Server. I've also added a couple pages that were missing from the initial release. Here are the major changes:
- Many typos have been caught and lots of things have been clarified throughout the book. There are probably still more issues, but hey, we do what we can.
- A Resting page has been added to the Basic Rules chapter, which summarizes each type of rest for easy reference.
- A Rooms & Room Features page has been added to the Dungeon Design section of the Judgment chapter, which goes into further detail about how to organize rooms by their features and manage dungeon exploration.
- The Warrior calling has a revised Onslaught feature that is more flexible.
- The Knight and Thief gained the Supportive talent, which improves the effects of the Support action. This replaces two of their least desirable talents, no big loss.
- All incantation casters now learn Int + 2 incantations at second level, rather than Int. I overcorrected when limiting spellcasting.
- All crafts now have two features. Martial crafts tend to have more powerful features than magical ones, to balance out how magical crafts have more potent and diverse deed catalogues.
- Collision damage has been reduced to 2 per obstacle or square of movement blocked, and it is now capped at 10 damage overall. Adding a ton of d4s for something that happens fairly regularly was too fiddly, and it was too easy to rack up massive damage.
- The bleeding state was erroneously the 1.21 version, which no longer makes sense given the changes to movement. It is supposed to deal its damage once per instance of movement, not once per square.
This will be the LAST rules update for the forseeable future as I turn my attention to writing content for the game, so if you are working on homebrew, third-party content, or any kind of support tool, you are safe to assume that the ruleset will not undergo any more changes for the time being.
Knights of Last Call Stream
I will be joining Derik Malenda of Knights of Last Call on Tuesday, 2/4/25 at 7:00 PM EST to have a conversation about Trespasser! I expect us to take a holistic look at the system, talk the place of procedural gameplay in the modern RPG culture, and discuss the things that Trespasser does differently from other tactical RPGs in its weight class. If you don't know Derik, he is a fantastic content creator who talks about a wide range of systems with a level of expertise and thoughtfulness that is, well, hard to find elsewhere on the internet! I'm very excited for this talk so be sure to tune in.
What's Next?
Next up will be the Patreon launch, which will happen in the one to two weeks. On it, I will be adding new monster groups every two weeks, as well as tiny or small dungeons every month. I'll also be posting other things on there, like magic items, encounter tables, and other content as I create it!
Further, a sizable hostility tier I dungeon will be available for those who sign up, perfect for pairing with the pregen characters when you introduce Trespasser to your group! This dungeon will also be available for purchase on Itch.io in case you don't feel like joining the Patreon.
Happy trespassing,
Tundalus
